KANPUR: IPS officer Surendra Kumar Das,who was is in a critical condition after consuming some poisonous substance , passed away on Sunday afternoon at Kanpur’s Regency Hospital.
Surendra Kumar Das, 30, an IPS officer of the 2014 batch, who was posted as the Superintendent of Police City (East) last month, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after consuming some poisonous substance.IPS Surendra Kumar allegedly consumed poison at his residence .
Dr Rajesh Agarwal, a senior doctor at the private hospital where Surendra Kumar Das was undergoing medical treatment had on Saturday said that many organs of the officers body had stopped working.State DGP, OP Singh had visited the hospital on Saturday.
Investigations so far indicate the IPS officer was in acute depression for the past few days and had searched the Google for ways to commit suicide, the SSP said, adding he consumed sulphas powder that he had asked his domestic help to bring from market for killing rats.
Kumar had joined his posting in Kanpur on August 3 of this year. An electrical engineer by education, he had reportedly left behind a two-page suicide note.
ADG Kanpur (zone) Avinash Chandra had said that the circumstance in which he took the step is a matter of investigation which would be conducted.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deepest condolence to the family members of the young IPS officer on his demise,” an official spokesman said.Senior police officers including DGP, ADG (Law and Order) and others have expressed grief over the officer’s death.
